Dining at Mearns View Care Home is much more than a daily routine – it’s a key part of life here, designed to reflect our residents’ individual tastes, needs and preferences. Each resident has a Nutritional Passport created when they move in, detailing everything from their favourite meals to how they like their tea. This forms part of their wider care plan and ensures each person receives the right support for their nutritional and hydration needs.
Our own in-house chefs prepare every dish using fresh, seasonal ingredients, with menus running on a four-week rotation and updated four times a year to match the seasons. Residents are encouraged to have their say through monthly meetings, written feedback, or one-to-one chats with the chef. These conversations help shape the menus, which currently include favourites like a weekly roast with rotating meats, fish and chip Fridays, and a lite bite menu for those wanting a lighter option. Special requests such as salmon or other fish dishes are always considered, ensuring mealtimes feel personal and satisfying.
With six dining rooms, one on each unit, residents can enjoy their meals in a relaxed communal setting or opt for in-room dining. For celebrations, our Garden Café can be booked for private family events, with the chef providing a buffet at no extra cost to help make these moments memorable and enjoyable.
Across the home, food is always within easy reach. Each dining room and the café feature cake stands filled with home baking, sandwiches, and more, perfect for snacking or afternoon tea. Residents can also join our cooking club, and we celebrate events like Chinese New Year or the conclusion of language lessons with themed food days to mark these achievements with flavour. For hydration and between-meal refreshments, each unit is equipped with its own fridge and water cooler, and residents also enjoy access to hydration stations, milkshakes, and hot drinks throughout the day.

Residents can choose to eat in the main dining areas, in the privacy of their own room, or in the garden when the weather permits. Residents can also host family gatherings in our private dining room.

Residents can choose from the meal options provided on a menu, or they can discuss any amendments with our Chef.
