COVID-19

The health of our residents, their relatives, and our staff remains our top priority at Mearns View Care Home and it is our mission to ensure that we all remain as safe as possible from the risks of COVID-19. We continue to follow guidance and legislation as issued by the Government and key sector bodies and we are committed to keeping our residents, their families, and our staff well-informed.

Despite the challenges the community has faced as a result of COVID-19, we have worked hard to implement policies and procedures that provide reassurance for all residents and visitors to the home.

Our COVID-19 Approach

In line with recent Scottish Government guidance effective from September 2022, care homes in Scotland no longer require face masks to be worn during visits due to high vaccination rates and other mitigations against COVID-19 in the social care sector and LFD testing is no longer necessary. Face masks will continue to be provided at the home should it be your preference to continue to wear one and staff will support the preferences of our residents who wish for our staff to wear face masks whilst providing them with care.

We would like to reassure you that we will continue to work closely with our Local Health Protection Teams and will follow their guidance should this decision change. For further information, please click here or contact the Home Manager directly.

Keeping Safe

At Mearns View Care Home, we continue to use PPE and hand hygiene products and all of our staff follow infection prevention and control measures.

We also understand the importance of keeping up to date and following official advice and guidance provided by the Health and Social Care Partnerships. We will continue to encourage residents and staff to remain up to date with all vaccinations and boosters for both COVID-19 and flu and where cases do occur, we have a system in place for recording cases and taking appropriate action to keep any cases as contained as possible.

Staying Connected

Following on from the effects that COVID-19 has had and continues to have, we want to ensure our residents keep connected with their loved ones and the local community. We support our residents in being able to take day trips and overnight stays. To enable this, residents will be required to undertake an individual risk assessment which includes the use of respiratory screening questions upon returning. Testing and isolation are not needed for individuals who temporarily leave the home but to ensure everyone’s safety, we do encourage our residents to keep up with vaccinations.

During times when visiting may be restricted, such as in an outbreak, we offer a variety of devices to enable our residents to chat with their loved ones online and stay connected. We understand the importance that human connection and participation in activities have on residents’ mental and physical well-being, which is why we go above and beyond to support them with their hobbies, experience new interests, and meet new people.
