At Mearns View Care Home, we are proud to provide Dementia Care for people living with dementia at our care home in Newton Mearns alongside our residential care, nursing care, respite care and palliative care services. Our dementia care staff have received professional training in dealing with all aspects and severities of Dementia.

Our Activities Team collaborates with residents and their loved ones to identify activities and therapies that are appropriate for their specific needs and to help them thrive in their environment, as they understand the benefits of living a fulfilled life.

Dementia is a long-term condition that impacts an older person’s mental capabilities in a variety of ways, including difficulties with speech, memory loss and cognitive skills. Those living with dementia can continue to live a high-quality life with the right care and attention, where they can participate in their favourite activities. Our goal is for residents to preserve their sense of self and independence for as long as possible.

Before a resident moves into Mearns View Care Home, we meet with them and their loved ones to ensure we can meet a person’s individual needs. We work with residents and their families to understand their routines, interests, and preferences which we then incorporate into a care plan. We adopt a person-centred approach to care and strive to help residents maintain their independence and dignity whilst offering support.

Our dementia care team undergoes regular training to ensure that the team has a wide range of understanding in accordance with the many stages of the dementia journey. From supporting residents with daily activities to helping them with mobility, communication and personal care, our teams have the experience and knowledge to provide effective care to our residents living with dementia.

At Mearns View Care Home, we provide an activities programme for all residents which includes both group and one on one activities and therapies. Examples include arts & crafts sessions, music therapy, and reminiscence activities. Regular activities are designed to help enhance the physical, mental, and social well-being of our residents, including those with dementia.
