Keeping Fit at Mearns View

Fitness class with resistance bands in a care home

Keeping our care home residents active is important to us here at Mearns View. Our regular keep-fit classes have been increasingly popular, especially as the winter months make getting outside more difficult. The movements and stretches to music get the blood pumping and the friendly competition keeps it fun and interesting!

The gentle, seated exercises are accessible to all abilities, allowing everyone to join in at their own pace, and residents are quick to encourage each other throughout the class. Making fitness fun and social motivates the group and the classes are a wonderful way to stay energised and active.

Gentle exercise offers benefits such as improving strength and balance to reduce fall risk and promote independence. Staying in a chair reduce strain on joints, muscles and bones, while improving flexibility and circulation in a low-impact way.

The mental health benefits are just as significant, with regular exercise helping to boost mood and confidence. With more and more residents taking up these classes, the social impact is also evident.

The fitness class is just one of the many therapeutic activities we offer at Mearns View Care Home in Newton Mearns. To stay up to date with all our latest events, give us a follow on social media or keep an eye on our website.
