Mearns View Care home is very lucky to have beautifully landscaped gardens for its residents to utilise. The outside space that we have to offer allows our residents a secure place to have some exercise, enjoy the fresh air and appreciate all of the nature in our garden. Our garden is the perfect space for our residents to have some downtime to themselves or to have their loved ones around to socialise.
Whenever we get the chance, our Activities Coordinator plans as many outside activities as possible in our garden. It’s important for residents to get out and into our garden as it allows them to enjoy the outdoors and be at one with nature. Our team encourages all of the homes to get involved in activities, especially gardening. Our residents join in planting flowers and vegetables, watering the seeds every day and watching everything grow. Additionally, we have bird feeders within our private gardens where our residents can sit and watch all the birds that enter the garden.
It is important to us that we offer our residents a stimulating outdoor environment that they can go to and enhance their senses in many ways by providing a plethora of smells, lots of colourful flowers and different textures. Our residents can partake in a variety of outdoor games on warm days. Outdoor games and activities encourage better overall well-being as it boosts mood and improves physical health. Our garden also has a dedicated play area for young visitors to enjoy whether that’s residents’ grand-grandchildren or children from the local schools.

Our garden has wheelchair-accessible paths and seated furniture for those with restricted mobility. Our private garden is secure with proper fencing and gates, to prevent residents from wandering off or getting lost. We have well-maintained paths, lighting, and other safety features to prevent falls or other accidents.

Working with residents and their loved ones, we get to know everything there is to know about an individual to create a personalised care plan solely for their needs which can be modified when the time comes, to ensure a continuum of care.
